Pink Noise Projects is proud to present Ashes, the fourth solo exhibition by Philadelphia-based artist Jen Brown. Jen is a multidisciplinary maker whose varied and eclectic artistic practice often offers reflections on loss, place, and the construction of community. In addition to experimentation with various techniques and material studies, their practice also embraces and subverts more traditional modes of making, such as portrait painting. For this exhibition, Jen created a series of portraits of plants that document the delicate and ephemeral quality of potted plants in various forms of decay. The paintings document moments of loss in contemporary life, offering commentary on the temporary states of domestic space, organic matter, and cycles of life.
Jen Brown (they/them) is an artist, gardener and community organizer. They have lived in Fishtown/Kensington//Philadelphia since 2009. They have worked in museums, galleries, bakeries, gardens, construction, and have assisted in countless projects. Jen is passionate about composting, curating, community, and art and culture which are so abundant in Philadelphia. Jen takes great joy in connecting people with resources.
